Philippines, September 17,2013 -Tuesday, The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) confirmed that a 41 years old Pinay Nurse died from the corona virus in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia last August 29, 2013
A medical report obtained from Philippine Embassy that the deceased Filipina nurse was tested positive for the coronavirus before her death said Raul Hernandez, Foreign Affairs spokesman.
The Pinay was said to have been to the United States for a vacation last July and returned to Riyadh on the same month. August 12 she was admitted to the hospital after a fish-bone got stuck in her throat. She was discharged two days later.
On August 22, she was readmitted to the hospital suffered fever and coughing. She developed respiratory distress and was put on a ventilator.
"Two days later, she was diagnosed with severe pneumonia and had to be transferred to the hospital's ICU," -Hernandez said.
The department of health is now coordinating with the Filipina Nurse's family for the the repatriation of her remain.
Hernandez said that another Filipino has recovered after being infected by the virus while confined at the hospital.
"The patient was brought by her employer to the hospital for dialysis
and was infected during her confinement. She is now recovering.
"They should also immediately seek medical attention if they feel any of
the disease's symptoms which include fever, cough, shortness of breath
and even diarrhea," Hernandez said.
Hernandez urged all Filipinos in Riyadh to follow measures being
undertaken by local health authorities to prevent the spread of the
virus.
